SR22 Frequently Asked Questions
What is an SR22 Filing ?
An SR22 Filing is a form issued by an insurance company which removes a suspension
order placed by the California DMV on your driving priviledge for receiving a DUI / DWI,
reckless driving, too many tickets, or having an uninsured accident.
The filing provides a guarantee to the Department of Motor Vehicles that an
insurance company has issued at least minimum liability coverage for the person making
that filing; AND – that the insurance company will notify the DMV should the insurance
ever lapse for any reason.
We are often asked if a person can receive an SR22 filing WITHOUT purchasing insurance
the answer is NO – An SR22 filing is evidence of active liability insurance .
Our agency represents many major insurance companies that actively write SR22 filing insurance.
DON’T make a mistake, We are here for you with an affordable solution!
We can issue the SR22 filing same day upon receipt of signed applications
(which can be faxed and paid by credit card) and if necessary,
we can overnight the filing to you for a small overnight fee.
If you have had your driver’s license suspended by the Department of Motor Vehicles
due to DUI / DWI, reckless driving, too many tickets, or an uninsured accident.
You MUST provide an SR22 to get your license back.
A non-owners SR22 generally allows the named insured to drive any vehicle that they are
given permission to drive by the vehicle owner, unless the vehicle is owned by a household member.
Non-owner SR22 is usually written with the state’s minimum coverage limit.
You must purchase minimum liability coverage on the vehicle(s) you own.
If you do not own a motor vehicle, you must purchase “non-owners” liability coverage.
The price is based on the severity of your driving record: accidents, violations, where you live,
and the number of years of driving experience. If you do not know what is on your
driving record, it is available at your local DMV for a $ 5.00 fee.
Under normal circumstances the SR-22 Filing period is three years. However,
it can vary based on your unique circumstance.
Your insurance rates are determined by many factors. Among these rating variables are:
age, marital status, driving experience, driving history, and where you live.
The SR22 is only a certificate that proves you have met the states financial responsibility
(insurance) requirements. Only certain Carriers will issue you an SR22 and we will do our
best to find you the best possible rates since,
the rates for SR22 clients may be slightly higher.
To avoid getting your driving privileges suspended make sure you have an active
insurance policy with an SR22 certificate on file with the Department of Motor Vehicles
for the three year period required by law.
If there is no active policy the insurance carrier is required to notify the Department
of Motor Vehicles and you license will be suspended automatically!
To get a restricted license after being arrested for a DUI you have to do the following:
1. Show proof of enrollment in an approved DUI program.
2. Show proof of financial responsibility (SR22)
3. Pay all required fees to your DMV.
Methods of down payment accepted are Visa, MasterCard, American Express.
